로이스 응은 기술로 촉발된 가상 현실들이 우리의 인식과 지각을 완전히 바꾸어 놓은 오늘날, 현존감이라는 개념은 절단된 팔에 느껴지는 환상통 같은 것이라고 말한다. 작가는 무대 위에 자신의 “환상 현존”을 만들어내려고 시도한다. 현존은 기술로 구현될 수 있는가? 확실한 여기와 지금은 존재하는가? 오늘날 언제든, 어디에든 존재할 수 있는 나의 현존은 어떤 무게를 지니는가?
